Special guest opening act: Ron Renninger
Comprised of Hillary Foxsong, Stuart Markus and Gerry McKeveny, Gathering Time is like a high energy Peter, Paul & Mary or a co-ed Crosby, Stills & Nash with various parts of The Byrds, Joni Mitchell, the Eagles and America; a head-turning folk trio described as "getting a whole beehive-full of buzz" on the northeast regional folk scene.
Gathering Time's 2007 remake of Peter Yarrow's "Light One Candle" has been spun on stations ranging from NYC's top-rated WCBS-FM to Israel's Galilee plains; their 2008 CD "Songs of Hope and Freedom" won wide acceptance on folk stations nationwide. In 2012, the trio's second CD "Red Apples and Gold," rose to #5 on the Folk DJ charts in September and to #12 on the national Roots Music Report radio charts in October, charting at #76 in the year-end Top 100 Albums. Their third CD "When One Door Closes..." reached #3 on the Folk DJ charts in January 2014.
Gathering Time was voted "best band" runner-up as well as "top folk band" in the 2011 Long Island Press readers' poll.
The trio's fourth CD, "Keepsake," will see release in the fall of 2015.
Here's what the critics are saying about Gathering Time...
"Among the finest performers in the New York metropolitan area, whatever the size of the venue, from a house concert to an outdoor festival," with "harmonies that can charm the birds out of the trees, strong original songs, and a savvy repertoire of cover songs, ranging from traditional folk to classic rock. They appeal to audiences of all ages."
JOHN PLATT, WFUV
"I have to say that Gathering Time is right up there with the ones we all know -- they are the next generation of great trios with meaningful music performed in awesome harmony."
BILL HAHN, WFDU 89.1FM
Self-taught at age 15, Ron Renninger has enjoyed a notable career as a singer/songwriter, studio musician and recording artist. He has shared the stage with folk royalty Richie Havens, Lucinda Williams, Jessie Colin Young, John Hammond Jr., Lucy Kaplansky, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. Ron has performed at such well-known venues as Gerdes Folk City, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, The Bottom Line and numerous other U.S. and international venues. A sought-after studio musician, he is currently working on his own soon to be released 6th CD, "Late Bloomer." Aided by outstanding dexterity on an old Martin, and a slightly raspy baritone, Ron's music touches on universal themes that can at once entertain, inspire and often move some feet.
Here's the buzz on Ron Renninger ...
"Ron Renninger more than held his own with well crafted, well sung and superbly played original compositions. An unexpected treat."
THE NEW YORK TIMES
"Simple instrumentation keeps his voice and nimble finger picking in the forefront. Renninger seems to be an artist whose fuse and muse still burn bright."
PERFORMING SONGWRITER Magazine
"He truly is a great Singer, Songwriter and Guitarist. Ron's music seems somehow to tap into the sub conscience; he's able to put into words those thoughts and feelings that usually lie just below the surface".
